​Managerial Development Plan

Personal Reflection 

Regarding Goal One, the SOP for Safe Dog Handling, I believe I am highly likely to achieve this goal because the shelter is currently experiencing challenges related to dog handling practices and recognizes the need for change in kennel removal and return procedures. Having staff and volunteers already aware of these safety concerns, I am able to create a strong foundation for buy-in and motivation to improve current practices. The frequency of dog bits resulting from mishandling, as well as cases of kennel related reactivity that can lead to euthanasia, reinforce the urgency and importance of implementing this SOP. I plan to celebrate the successful implementation of the Safe Dog Handling SOP outside of work by sharing the achievement with my family and friends.

I believe I am less likely to achieve Goal 2 due to the emotional barriers present among staff, as many individuals may be emotionally shut down or hesitant to engage in wellness focused initiatives. Also, the fast paced nature of the shelter and existing time constraints may make it challenging to gain full buy-in for participation. The effectiveness of the wellness program depends on consistent and widespread engagement; I am concerned that achieving full participation may be difficult in the current environment.
